Over 200 patients a month: how we work at Clínica Lumos

Myths and facts about FUE hair transplant - Clinica Lumos

At Clínica Lumos we see over 200 patients a month at our location in Viña del Mar. Behind that number is a team of more than 16 people and a way of working designed so that every patient receives personalized care, even as the clinic grows.

When someone is considering a hair transplant or an aesthetic procedure, it is natural to wonder whether a clinic with many patients will give them the time and care they need. In this article we explain how we are organized, the journey a patient takes from their first message to their follow-up visits, and what we recommend checking at any clinic before deciding.

What it means to see over 200 patients a month

Patient volume reflects something important for anyone considering a hair transplant or an aesthetic procedure: accumulated experience. Every evaluation, every hairline design and every post-operative check-up adds clinical judgment to the team.

That experience shows in concrete situations: recognizing when hair loss is not surgical and is better treated another way, anticipating how alopecia might progress in a young person, adapting a design to each patient’s features, or calmly explaining why implanted hair falls out in the first weeks. These are details you learn by seeing many different cases.

But more patients does not mean less time for you. Our organization is designed so that volume does not affect quality:

  • Evaluation with Dr. Evelyn Alfonso: every case is reviewed by the doctor, who decides whether you are a candidate and which treatment is right for you.
  • Agreed design: in hair transplants, the design of the area to be implanted is agreed between the patient and Dr. Alfonso before the procedure.
  • Dedicated team: more than 16 people across the medical team, clinical support and patient coordination.
  • Follow-up: post-operative check-ups to support you during recovery and as the result develops.

A patient’s journey, step by step

Although every case is different, a hair patient’s path at Clínica Lumos usually follows these stages:

1. First contact

You can book online or message us on WhatsApp. Patient coordination helps you choose the type of consultation and, if you live outside the region, the first evaluation can be done by teleconsultation.

2. Medical evaluation

Dr. Evelyn Alfonso evaluates you personally. Your history, the type and degree of alopecia and your donor area are reviewed, with the help of digital trichoscopy, follicular density measurement and a 3D model of your head. For diagnosis we also use AI-assisted trichoscopy. The details are in trichological evaluation: what tests we do.

3. Treatment plan

If you are a candidate, the design, the estimated number of grafts and aftercare are discussed. If you are not a candidate yet, another option is proposed, such as medical treatment or our Hair Protocol. An answer of “not yet” is also part of good care.

4. Pre-operative tests

If surgery is indicated, tests are ordered according to your case, such as blood tests and an electrocardiogram. They can be done at the clinic itself.

5. Procedure day

The procedure is performed in an operating room authorized by the SEREMI de Salud, led by Dr. Alfonso. Before starting, the doctor confirms the design with you. We describe the day in hair transplant day step by step.

6. Recovery and follow-up

You receive written care instructions and have post-operative check-ups. During treatment you keep direct contact via WhatsApp to answer questions, which is especially valuable in the first weeks, when more questions come up.

A team that grew from scratch

Clínica Lumos started as an independent project in Viña del Mar and grew one patient at a time. Today we combine hair restoration —FUE transplant, beard and eyebrow implants— with body aesthetic medicine such as LipoVaser and LipoLaser, all at one location.

Having everything in one place simplifies the process: the evaluation, sample collection for tests, the operating room, the nursing area and follow-up visits are all at the same location, and follow-up is handled by the same team that cared for you from the start. You can meet the people on our team at medical team and the doctor at Dr. Evelyn Alfonso, trained in FUE in Turkey, Italy and Barcelona.

Patients from different cities

Many of our patients live in Viña del Mar and other towns in the Valparaíso region, but we also welcome patients from Santiago, about 1 hour 30 minutes away, and from other regions. For them, the first evaluation can be a teleconsultation and tests are coordinated with the trip so they have to come as few times as possible. If that is your case, see hair transplant for patients from Santiago or where we are and how to get here.

Why does it matter when choosing a clinic?

When comparing clinics, it is worth looking at who performs the evaluation and the procedure, how much experience the team has, whether the clinic holds health authorization and what follow-up looks like after surgery. You can see real patient results in our before and after section and read their reviews.

A simple checklist for comparing

  • Who evaluates me and who will be in charge of the procedure?
  • Where is the surgery performed, and does the facility have health authorization?
  • Do they give me a diagnosis or just a quote?
  • Can I see real patient results and verifiable reviews?
  • What does follow-up include, and who do I contact if I have questions?

How we protect personalized care

Growth brings a challenge: making sure every patient still feels heard. Some practices that help us achieve this are:

  • The doctor in charge of your case: Dr. Alfonso makes the diagnosis and leads the procedures, which ensures consistency between what is planned and what is done.
  • Clear explanations: we want you to understand your diagnosis, your options and the real timelines of the process, with no promises that cannot be kept.
  • Written instructions: so you always have your before and after care at hand.
  • Direct channel: contact via WhatsApp during treatment so you are never left with questions.

What you can expect from us (and what you can’t)

We prefer to be clear from the start. You can expect an honest evaluation, an explanation of your options with their limits and risks, and close support during treatment. What you will not hear are promises of guaranteed results: every scalp is different and results vary from patient to patient. Our commitment is to recommend what makes sense for your case, even if that means waiting or choosing a non-surgical path.

Myths about clinics with many patients

“If they see so many people, they will rush me”

Volume is managed with a dedicated team and with the doctor evaluating every case. The idea is that accumulated experience adds value, not that it takes time away from each patient.

“A big clinic is always better”

Not necessarily. Size alone guarantees nothing: what matters is who evaluates you and operates on you, under what conditions, and how they support you afterwards.

“Results photos all look the same”

Every case is different. That is why it is worth looking at results from patients with characteristics similar to yours and understanding that results vary from person to person.

How to prepare for your first consultation

To get the most out of your evaluation, we suggest:

  • Come with clean hair and no styling products, so the scalp can be seen clearly. You do not need any prior tests for the first consultation.
  • Write down your history: when you first noticed the hair loss, whether it was gradual or sudden, and what happened in the previous months.
  • Make a list of medications, supplements and hair treatments you have used.
  • Bring old photos if you have them; they help show how your hair has changed.
  • Write down your questions, even the ones that seem obvious.

When it is worth getting checked

Many people wait years before asking for an evaluation. We recommend not putting it off if:

  • You notice your hair is getting thinner or your scalp is showing through.
  • You have heavy hair loss that lasts for several months.
  • Bald patches appear suddenly.
  • You feel itching or burning, or see redness or scabs on your scalp.
  • You have a family history of alopecia and want to know how to care for your hair in time.

Getting checked early does not mean having surgery: often the first step is a diagnosis and medical treatment. You may find it useful to read normal hair shedding or alopecia and types of alopecia.
