How to choose a hair transplant clinic in Chile: 10 questions to ask before surgery
October 24, 2026 | by Dra. Evelyn Alfonso

Searching for “the best hair implant clinic in Chile” brings up rankings, offers and prices that are hard to compare. Many of those rankings are published by the clinics themselves. Instead of another ranking, here are the 10 questions you should ask any clinic, including ours, before having surgery.
In summary: check that the operating room is authorized by the SEREMI de Salud, who evaluates you and who operates, whether the quote is in follicular units, what technique they propose and why, and what check-ups the post-operative period includes.
The 10 questions, in a table
| # | Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Is the operating room authorized by the SEREMI de Salud? | It is a health requirement for performing surgery. Ask to see it. |
| 2 | Who evaluates me: a doctor or a sales advisor? | Diagnosing the cause of hair loss and assessing the donor area is a medical act. |
| 3 | Who performs the extraction and the implantation? | Ask which part the doctor does and which part the technical team does. |
| 4 | Is the quote in follicular units or in “hairs”? | A follicular unit has 1 to 4 hairs: talking about hairs inflates the numbers. |
| 5 | How many units can I extract without depleting my donor area? | The donor area is limited and must be planned for the long term. |
| 6 | What technique do you recommend and why? | FUE, no-shave FUE and FUSS have different indications. |
| 7 | Was the cause of my hair loss investigated? | Not all hair loss is androgenetic alopecia; sometimes trichoscopy or a biopsy is needed. |
| 8 | What anesthesia is used? | Local anesthesia or sedation with an anesthesiologist change the experience on the day of surgery. |
| 9 | What does the post-operative period include? | First wash, check-ups and follow-up during the year of growth. |
| 10 | Can I see real results and verifiable reviews? | Before and after photos of the clinic’s own patients and Google reviews. |
1. Authorized operating room and safety
A hair transplant is outpatient surgery, and in Chile it must be performed in a facility with health authorization. At Clínica Lumos all surgical procedures are performed in an operating room authorized by the SEREMI de Salud. We explain it in Safe clinic.
2 and 3. Who evaluates you and who operates on you
Ask for the full name of who will do your evaluation and who will be in the operating room. At Clínica Lumos you are evaluated personally by Dr. Evelyn Alfonso, a physician and surgeon, member of FUE Europe, the Società Italiana di Tricologia and the Chilean Society of Aesthetic Surgery and Medicine (SOCHIMCE).
4 and 5. Follicular units, not “hairs”
Comparing “5,000 hairs” with “2,000 grafts” is comparing apples and oranges: they can be the same surgery. Always ask for the number of follicular units and an estimate of how many your donor area can provide without leaving it thinned. We explain it in detail in follicles vs. hairs.
6. The right technique for your case
FUE extracts units one by one without a linear scar; no-shave FUE lets the procedure go unnoticed; FUSS leaves a linear scar at the back of the head. See the technique comparison table.
7. Diagnosis before surgery
A good candidate is not defined by visible baldness alone. AI-assisted trichoscopy measures hair thickness and density, and a hair biopsy helps when there are doubts about the cause of hair loss.
8. Anesthesia and comfort
Most transplants are done under local anesthesia. If you are worried about the experience on the day of surgery, ask about the option of hair transplant with sedation.
9 and 10. Post-operative care and real results
The result of a transplant develops over a year, which is why check-ups matter as much as the surgery. Ask for photos of the clinic’s own patients, like our gallery of before and after, and check reviews on Google or in testimonials.
Frequently asked questions
Which is the best hair transplant clinic in Chile?
There is no single answer: the best one is the one that meets health requirements, evaluates you with a doctor, quotes in follicular units and has verifiable results in patients with a case similar to yours.
How do I know if a clinic has an authorized operating room?
Ask directly about the SEREMI de Salud health authorization for the operating room where the surgery will be performed, and ask to see it.
Is it better to have surgery in Chile or in Turkey?
It depends on your priorities. Having surgery close to home makes follow-up visits and dealing with any complication easier. We compare them in detail in our article on hair transplant in Chile or Turkey.
What should a hair transplant quote include?
Number of follicular units, technique, type of anesthesia, who operates, medications and post-operative check-ups included.
Can I ask for a second opinion before having surgery?
Yes, and it is advisable if you have doubts about the diagnosis, the proposed technique or the number of follicular units.
