A hair clinic in the Fifth Region
Being in Viña del Mar allows us to see patients from the entire Valparaíso region —Viña, Valparaíso, Concón, Quilpué, Villa Alemana and surrounding areas— without having to travel to Santiago for a hair transplant. We also welcome patients from Santiago and other regions who prefer to have their procedure on the coast.
For those who live in the region, being close has real advantages: the evaluation is in person, the first days of recovery are spent at home and post-operative follow-up visits do not require a long trip. That said, living near the ocean means extra care in the first weeks, such as avoiding direct sun on the implanted area and not swimming in the sea or a pool until the doctor gives the go-ahead. If you live in another town in the region, also see hair implant in the Valparaíso region.
How to get here from Santiago
Viña del Mar is about 1 hour 30 minutes from Santiago via Route 68, depending on traffic. There are frequent buses from the Alameda and Pajaritos terminals to the Viña del Mar terminal, and the clinic is a few minutes from the terminal.
An important point: on the day of the procedure you should not drive back. Ideally, come with a family member or friend, or travel by bus. The procedure is outpatient, so it does not require hospitalization. We explain the full process in hair transplant for patients from Santiago.
Coming from another city? Start with a teleconsultation
The first evaluation can be done in person or by teleconsultation. If you live outside the region, Dr. Alfonso can review your case online, tell you whether you are a candidate and guide you on the treatment plan before you travel. You do need to come to the clinic on the day of the procedure.
How a trip is usually organized
This is only a guide: Dr. Alfonso adjusts the timing to your case.
- Before traveling: online evaluation with photos and a video call. You define your plan and the date.
- Arrival: you arrive in Viña del Mar and, if needed, have your pre-operative tests done at the clinic, coordinated with your trip so you have to come as few times as possible.
- Implant day: outpatient procedure under local anesthesia. Before starting, the doctor confirms the design with you in person. Afterwards you rest at your accommodation or go home accompanied.
- Return and follow-up: you go back to your city when the doctor says so. Follow-up continues with photos and video calls, and with in-person visits when appropriate.
From Santiago it is often enough to travel on the day of the procedure; from more distant regions it is best to arrive the day before. If you need to stay overnight, we have agreements with hotels near the clinic: ask us on WhatsApp. More details in hair medical tourism in Viña del Mar and hair implant for patients from other regions.
Why many patients choose to have their procedure in Viña del Mar
Besides being close to Santiago, Viña del Mar has a good choice of accommodation and is a calm city to rest in during the days of the procedure. For many patients, getting away from the routine of the capital helps them go through recovery more calmly.
But what matters most for the result is not the city, but who performs your procedure and under what conditions. At Clínica Lumos, Dr. Evelyn Alfonso, a member of FUE Europe trained in FUE in Turkey, Italy and Barcelona, evaluates you personally and leads every procedure, in an operating room authorized by the SEREMI de Salud (regional health authority). Depending on your case, she may also consider a no-shave hair transplant.
If you recover on the coast: dos and don’ts
Viña del Mar is a good place to recover, but your priority is the result: protecting the grafts in the first days is what matters most.
What you can do
- Stay at one of our partner hotels near the clinic.
- Rest at your accommodation and take relaxed walks around the city.
- Come with a family member or friend.
- Combine your trip with light sightseeing, without physical exertion.
What you should avoid
- Direct sun on the implanted area during the first weeks.
- Swimming in the sea or a pool until the doctor gives the go-ahead.
- Alcohol, intense exercise and driving on the day of the procedure.
For hair-washing care in the first days, see how to wash your hair after a hair transplant.
What we do at our clinic
- Hair evaluation and diagnosis of the type and degree of alopecia.
- FUE hair transplant.
- Beard implant and eyebrow implant.
- Post-operative follow-up visits and monitoring of results.
Besides hair restoration, at the same location we perform LipoVaser and LipoLaser and aesthetic medicine treatments.
Surgical procedures are performed in an operating room authorized by the SEREMI de Salud. The same clinic has sample collection for pre-operative tests, a nursing area for wound care and check-ups, and procedure rooms. For hair diagnosis we use AI-assisted trichoscopy, and as a non-surgical alternative we offer the Hair Protocol.
What to bring and how to prepare
For your evaluation
- Come with clean hair, without gel, wax or hair fibers.
- Bring a list of your medications, previous treatments and family history of hair loss.
- If you have recent tests or old photos of your hair, bring them.
- You do not need any prior tests for the first consultation.
For the day of the procedure
- Arrive in the morning, after a light breakfast.
- Wear clothes with buttons or a zipper that you do not have to pull over your head.
- Come accompanied or by bus: you should not drive back.
- Avoid alcohol and intense exercise, and follow the written instructions we give you.

Follow-up when you live far away
Living in another city does not mean you are left without support. Follow-up continues with photos and video calls, and in-person visits are coordinated with your trips when the doctor indicates. During treatment you have direct contact via WhatsApp to answer questions, for example about the temporary shedding in the first weeks, which is expected (we explain it in shock loss after a transplant).
If in the following days you notice something that worries you —pain that increases instead of decreasing, bleeding that does not stop, marked redness or swelling, discharge or fever—, message us immediately instead of waiting for your next visit. It is better to ask about something that turns out to be normal than to ignore a warning sign.
