FUE technique

What technique does Dr. Alfonso use?

At Clínica Lumos, beard implants are performed exclusively with the minimally invasive FUE technique (Follicular Unit Extraction). The follicles are extracted one by one from the scalp (usually from the occipital area) and implanted on the face following the natural angle, direction and density of facial hair.

The result is a natural-looking beard, with no visible scars and permanent growth. The steps are the same as for the FUE hair transplant.

Beard implant

Is a beard implant permanent?

Yes. The follicles come from the scalp, an area that is genetically resistant to hair loss, so the transplanted hair grows permanently.

Is a beard implant painful?

No. It is performed under local anesthesia in the donor area and on the face. There may be slight discomfort during the first few seconds of the anesthesia; the rest of the procedure is comfortable and pain-free.

How long does the procedure take?

Between 3 and 6 hours, depending on the number of follicles and the area to be treated. It is a single outpatient session: you arrive and are discharged the same day.

Does the transplanted hair grow the same as a natural beard?

Yes. Over time it adapts to the face and grows with the same characteristics as your facial hair. You can trim it, shave it and style it just like the rest of your beard.

When are the results visible?

The transplanted hair falls out during the first month, which is normal. Visible growth starts from the third month and the final result can be seen between 8 and 12 months.

Can an asymmetrical beard be corrected?

Yes. Dr. Alfonso's prior design makes it possible to correct asymmetries, fill in specific areas and achieve a balanced beard in proportion to the face.

Can I shave after a beard implant?

Avoid shaving the implanted area during the first month. From the following month you can resume normal shaving, according to Dr. Alfonso's instructions.

Does a beard implant leave scars?

No. The FUE technique leaves almost imperceptible micro-punctures in the donor area, which close on their own without stitches. No visible scars remain on the face either.

When can I resume sexual activity?

It is recommended to wait 5 to 7 days: physical exertion and increased blood pressure can affect the implanted area during the first stage of healing.

When can I go back to work in mining?

A minimum rest of 3 to 4 weeks is recommended because of dust, sun, the helmet and physical exertion. Wearing a helmet is safe from day 15, but for highly demanding jobs Dr. Alfonso assesses the return to work case by case.
