Who is a candidate for an unshaven hair transplant?
Not every case is suited to an unshaven transplant: during the evaluation, Dr. Alfonso reviews your case and tells you the right technique. In general it is a good option for:
- People who need to return to work soon or do not want the surgery to be noticed.
- Patients with early or moderate alopecia, or who want to increase density at the temples, frontal hairline or crown.
- Those whose hair is long enough to conceal the treated area.
- Women with loss of density who do not want to shave.
If you need to cover a large area, the traditional FUE hair transplant may be more suitable. We will explain this honestly during the consultation.
What technique does Dr. Alfonso use?
Dr. Alfonso works with two variants and chooses the most suitable one based on the number of grafts, your donor area and the length of your hair:
FUE with long hair (no shaving)
Nothing is shaved: the follicles are extracted and implanted with the hair long. It is the most discreet option, ideal for touch-ups or sessions with a smaller number of grafts.
FUE with hidden partial shave
Only a strip of the donor area at the back of the head is shaved, and it stays covered by the hair above it. The recipient area is not shaved. This allows working with more grafts while staying discreet.
In both cases the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, in an operating room authorized by the SEREMI, and you are discharged the same day.

Will people notice I had a transplant?
With the long-hair technique nothing is shaved, and with the partial shave the donor strip stays covered by your own hair. In both cases the recipient area is not shaved, so it is much more discreet than a traditional FUE. In the first few days small scabs may be visible in the implanted area.
Which unshaven technique is right for me?
It depends on how many grafts you need, your donor area and the length of your hair. For touch-ups or a few units the long-hair technique is usually enough; for larger sessions the hidden partial shave is used. Dr. Alfonso will tell you during the evaluation.
Is the unshaven hair transplant painful?
It is performed under local anesthesia. Usually you only feel the first anesthetic injections; for the rest of the procedure you should not feel pain.
How many grafts can be transplanted without shaving?
It depends on your donor area and the surface to be covered. For large numbers of grafts, traditional FUE is usually the best option. We decide this during the evaluation.
When are the results visible?
In the first few weeks it is normal for the transplanted hair to fall out; the follicle stays in the scalp. From 3 to 4 months the new hair starts to grow, and between 10 and 12 months the final result can be seen.
When can I go back to work?
Since the whole head is not shaved, most patients resume their activities within a few days. We give you specific instructions based on your job and the technique used.
