Local anesthesia (the usual option)

The donor and recipient areas are numbed. You are awake and comfortable; usually you only feel the first anesthetic injections.

With conscious sedation

In addition to local anesthesia, the anesthesia team administers sedation that keeps you relaxed during the surgery, with your vital signs monitored at all times.

Whether sedation is indicated is decided by the medical team during your evaluation, based on your health condition and your case.
